Superlek Jitmuangnon decisions Rhouni in ONE Friday Fights 172 return

Superlek Jitmuangnon defeated Othman “The Ironside” Rhouni by unanimous decision in the bantamweight Muay Thai main event of ONE Friday Fights 172, broadcast Friday, September 25, from Bangkok’s Lumpinee Stadium in Asia primetime.

The 22-year-old Thailand native and Jitmuangnon Gym product was making his first ONE Championship appearance in three years after time on the regional circuit. The win pushed his career record to 61-16.

Rhouni tested him early with sharp boxing and thudding body blows, working behind a disciplined jab and a high guard. Superlek broke through with short punches in the clinch and crisp hooks on the break.

In the second round Superlek stepped up the pace with thudding body kicks and straight hands. Rhouni answered with a heavy left hook, but Superlek timed a step-in elbow and drove a knee into the midsection as Rhouni backed toward the ropes.

In the third, Rhouni opened with a head kick and a one-two. Superlek swayed out of range, smiled, and fired a retaliatory elbow that had the crowd on its feet. The three-round war went to Superlek on all cards.

In the flyweight kickboxing co-main, former Rajadamnern Stadium Muay Thai World Champion Yodkatanyu Jitmuangnon took a split decision over Liu Junchao, opening his ONE account and moving to 51-15.
