North South Choke
North South choke is a fantastic way to finish a fight. It’s a blood choke so it works by cutting off the flow of blood to and from the brain. The squeeze is on the sides of the neck not the throat. Best of all it doesn’t require strength, just good technique and time.
How to do a North South Choke
To apply the choke concentrate on pushing your opponents arms down towards their waist from North South position. Slightly off centre is better than straight on. Once you have both hands well away from their neck suddenly switch one arm back and take the neck. Your shoulder should go across the top with your arm snaking around the far side of his neck and back under the throat to clasp your other hand. Once you’ve connected your hands you should be flat to the ground with your legs fully extended and medium width apart. Aim to be in perfect North South, if you are angled either side the choke is not as tight. Drop your shoulder, apply a firm squeeze and wait for the tap. Don’t move around, just trust the position and remember to squeeze with the choking shoulder. Rolling it forward and down to tighten the choke.
